a dissolution of things, that take place in the matter of weeks, or months, that shall be seen to the end. until then, dinner parties, sleepovers and game nights shall resume as usual. we shall have pockets of solitude or camaraderie outside this space, long dinners followed by conversations until the morning, and then return to the same space waiting for you, to leave.
in another news, J/Y and i have become good friends over an exchange of three tupperware of fruits with books (thanks, Karl). we talk over books, ideas of home, languages, his theater project, my growing responsibilities at work, alongside self-deprecating jokes. it seems i have met another INTP (if we were to follow this typology), marked by his remarks of ‘wanting to grow my worldview of knowledge’ and the desire to have free time to read and be rid of boring responsibilities. it is nice to have a friend in the flesh now to openly throw ideas to, apart from all the pseudo pro-development and pro-transition going on at work. important, but mostly fluff.
books read/being read/to be read:
- carbon democracy – timothy mitchell (important as a history book, but nonetheless US-centric and a materialist),
- seeing like a state – james s scott (to follow up from imagined communities. interesting so far). i probably need to expand my knowledge in human geography
- martin lings’s stuff – enduring utterences, followed by muhammad – it is time to study again sirah. i am forever fascinated by his writings.
- to study again nasr’s man and nature
- aziz al asmeh – islam and modernities. quite new to me, found in Verso’s collection. a syrian professor in CEU. his thoughts are very interesting and relevant in modern times. again culturalism/cultural identities, which can be very annoying these days in the development word. i believe if i manage to go to budapest this year i shall make it a point to visit him, or take his lectures.
this, and i have moved on to want other things. for example, a DPhil to undertake in 2 or 3 years, hopefully with a scholarship. therefore, no time nor resources to waste. it has been fun, friends, but return to solitude/bersendirian/khalwa i must.
